YASUGI Sadatoshi (1876-1966)
    Professor of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
    President of the Japanese Institute of Russian Literature.


YASUGI Sadatoshi
  YASUGI was born in 1876 in Tokyo. His father Toshio was a Tsuwano local lord in Yedo Era. Tsuwano is located in the most western part of Shimane prefecture.
  After he graduated first on the list in 1900, he had gone to Russia to study Russian next year.
  He engaged in the Russian study and teaching at the Univ. for 34 years as a leading authority.

  It's also important to remember that he compiled the Russia-Japanese Dictionary, Iwanami edition. He was appreciated and won the prize of Asahi-Shinbun Culture, received an honorary doctorate of Leningrad University.
  He was also the Waka (Japanese poem) poet under the tuition of OCHIAI Naofumi (Modern Japanese famous poet) and his pieces of Waka were collected as a “Russian SAKE(vodka)”.
